Weather officials downgrade Ida, currently heading toward the U.S. Gulf Coast, to tropical storm status after its top sustained winds dropped to near 70 mph. Witnesses saw Diane Schuler pull off the road and get sick twice before she drove the wrong way down a New York highway July 26, killing herself and seven others, police reports say. Autopsy results released in August showed Schuler was drunk and had smoked pot before causing the horrific crash.
